Teen Substance Use Down in 'Drug Free Communities'
September 25, 2008

Press Release
We are in our fifth year of funding from the Drug Free Communities (DFC) program with trend data that reflects the same positive move as the national data.   With the help of the school system we have been able to document trends in alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana use which have indeed shown a downward trend in all areas.  While we still have much work to do in the area of substance abuse prevention, it is clear that when members of this and other communities come together to create positive change it truly does make a difference.   Together we are indeed creating healthier families and a safer community.

Included here is a link to the recently released report, "Underage Alcohol Use: Where Do Young People Get Alcohol?”  The report was based on data gathered in 2006-2007 from the annual National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).  The information provides insight to how underage drinkers acquire alcohol and frequency of consumption. Please feel free to contact our office if you have any questions. http://oas.samhsa.gov/2k8/underageGetAlc/underageGetAlc.htm
