Pool Party

Friday, June 24th the Randolph Park Water Park was the scene of the first party for the PCHS Class of 2009.  Over 150 rising 9th graders from Dublin and Pulaski Middle school attended the party, taking advantage of the opportunity to meet some of their new classmates, enjoy the pool, and have fun.

The party was a collaborative effort by Pulaski Community Partners Coalition and Randolph Park.  Research has shown that the transition between middle school and high school is a very difficult one for some students, one that often results in students not being successful in their first year of high school.  PCPC planned the pool party as an effort to “jump start” the transition process and give the students an opportunity to “meet and mingle” with their former “rivals” from different parts of the county.

Paige Wigginton, Kristen Dickerson, Cain Montgomery, Ian Montgomery, and Hope England, members of the PCPC Youth Action Board led the students in some games and activities designed to get the student to interact with each other.  They were also available to answer any questions the students about entering the high school in the fall.

PCPC sponsored the pool party with proceeds from the Drug-Free Communities Support Program grant. The next big event sponsored by the coalition will be “PCPC Night,” Monday, August 8 at during a Blue Jays baseball game at Calfee Park.
